After 20+ years living and working in Newcastle, me and my husband How decided to leave our jobs, buy a motorhome, rent out the house… and go travelling!
We spent the next 3 years trundling around Europe, through 26 countries – with our 2 whippets on board too. We hoped that somewhere along the way we’d discover what kind of new life we really wanted to lead.
Through new friends, chance encounters, a stint working at several amazing crofts and smallholdings (through HelpX), and an enduring love of the natural world, we finally returned to the UK to begin the search for our dream – a smallholding in rural Scotland, big enough to be as self-sufficient as possible, with space for How to pursue his musical passions.
And so, here we are! 3 years into our new home and we’re loving every minute. The veg plot is expanding this year, to enable me to start selling produce. The outbuildings are slowly being transformed into a songwriters and musicians retreat, and the whippets have plenty of space to sunbathe. Life is good!
